How to Pair Your Nest Smart Thermostat With Google Home
Jan 24, 2022
If you have a new Nest Thermostat installed in your home, you can pair it with your Google Home to easily control your home’s temperature. By pairing your programmable thermostat with Google Home, you can monitor and adjust your home’s temperature with simple voice commands. Take a moment to review the main steps for properly connecting your Google Home and Nest Thermostat.
1. Check You Have the Right Products
In order to pair your Nest Thermostat with Google Home, you’ll need to have the following products and apps:
- Nest app installed on your preferred smart device, such as a smartphone or a Google Home Hub
- Google Home app installed on your preferred smart device
- A properly installed Nest Thermostat
- A Google Home Assistant smart speaker, such as Nest Mini, Nest Audio, or Nest Hub
- An account with Google Home and an account with Nest
As long as you have these devices, apps, and accounts, you’ll be ready to pair your Nest Thermostat with Google Home
2. Pair Your Nest Thermostat to the Google Home App
After you’ve properly installed your Nest Thermostat and checked that it’s on, open the Google Home app from your smart device. With the app open, you’ll see any devices you’ve already connected to your Google Assistant. Since you haven’t paired your Nest Thermostat yet, you’ll need to follow these steps below:
- Select the “plus” sign: Open the Google Home app and tap the “plus” sign located at the home screen’s top-left corner.
- Tap “Set up device”: After you press the “plus” sign, you’ll see a menu with a variety of options to choose from. Select the “Set up device” option in the menu.
- Choose the “Works with Google” option: On the “Set up” screen, you’ll see two choices: “Works with Google” or “Set up new devices in your home.” Choose the “Works with Google” option.
- Search for your Nest Thermostat: Once you’ve selected “Works with Google,” you’ll see a screen where you can add compatible devices. Instead of scrolling down the list of devices, locate the Nest Thermostat faster by using the search bar at the top of the page. Once you see your Nest Thermostat, tap it.
- Log in to your Nest Account: After you’ve tapped your Nest Thermostat, you’ll be directed to a Nest login page. Instead of entering your Google Home login information, enter the Nest username and password associated with your account. Once you’ve entered your information, you’ll receive a verification code from Nest. Enter the code to verify you’re setting up your Nest Thermostat.
- Choose “Allow” to connect your Nest Thermostat: With your code entered, the screen will allow you to view various features you can use your Google Home speaker to control. Choose the “Allow” option for your Nest Thermostat to give Google Home access to it.
- Check your Google Home’s main screen: Once you’ve given your Google Home access to the Nest Thermostat, you can check if it’s been properly added by seeing if the thermostat is on your Google Home app’s main screen. If it appears, you’ve completed the setup process, and your Nest Thermostat should be paired with your Google Home.
3. Test Your Nest Thermostat
With your Google Home and Nest Thermostat paired, you can test if it works by giving your thermostat voice commands via your GoogleHome Assistant smart speaker. For example, you could say, “Okay, Google, set the temperature to 70.” If your Nest Thermostat responds to the command and changes temperature, you’ll know your Nest Thermostat is working.
