A Guide to Setting Up and Controlling Your ecobee SmartThermostat with Siri
Dec 13, 2021
Recently, ecobee announced their SmartThermostat with voice control is now compatible with Siri. If you have one of these programmable thermostats, an iPhone, and a compatible Apple hub device, you can use Siri to give your SmartThermostat voice commands. Take a moment to learn how to connect your Siri to your ecobee SmartThermostat and how to control it with your voice.
How to SetUp Siri With Your ecobee SmartThermostat
If you want to control your ecobee SmartThermostat with Siri, the first thing you’ll need to do is pair them together. Find out how below:
1. Ensure You Have a Compatible Apple Hub Device and Updated iPhone
Before you can pair Siri to your ecobee SmartThermostat with voice control, you’ll want to ensure you have a compatible Apple hub device, such as a HomePod mini or an Apple HomePod. If you don’t have one of these devices, you won’t be able to use Siri to control your SmartThermostat.
Alongside the need to have compatible hub devices in your home, you’ll also need to check if your iPhone is properly updated. If you want Siri to work properly with your ecobee SmartThermostat, your iPhone should be updated to iOS 15 or higher. You’ll also need to have the latest versions of the ecobee app and the Apple Home app.
2. Enable Siri
If you’ve met the criteria listed above, you can begin setting up Siri by enabling it as your preferred voice assistant. Begin by opening the ecobee app, and then on the SmartThermostat’s home screen, locate the microphone icon and tap on it. After tapping the microphone, you’ll see a list of voice assistants you can enable. Select the “Enable Siri” option and then follow the prompts to complete the voice assistant setup process.
3. Enable Your ecobee’s HomeKit Pairing Mode
After enabling Siri, go to your ecobee SmartThermost’s “Main Menu” page. Next, select “Settings” and then tap “Homekit.” Once you’re on the “HomeKit” page, tap the “Enable HomeKit pairing” option.
4. Add Your ecobee SmartThermostat as a HomeKit Accessory
After you’ve enabled HomeKit pairing, switch over to your Apple Home app. In the app, select the “Add Accessory” option. Next, scan the HomeKit code that should appear on the SmartThermostat’s screen or hold your iPhone near the SmartThermostat. Follow any on-screen prompts in the Home app to add your ecobee SmartThermostat as a HomeKit accessory.
5. Activate Siri in the Apple Home App
With you’ve added your ecobee SmartThermostat as a HomeKit accessory, you’ll need to activate Siri to complete the setup process. Begin activation by opening your Apple Home app and selecting your ecobee SmartThermostat. Next, access your SmartThermostat’s device settings by tapping the gear icon within the app, and then tap on Siri. Finally, switch on the “Listen for ‘Hey Siri’” option. Once you toggle on this option, you’ll be ready to use Siri to control your SmartThermostat.
Keep in mind the previous steps are all designed to help users who aren’t using Apple HomeKit or any other voice assistants to control their ecobee before setting up Siri. If you’ve already set up another voice assistant or Apple HomeKit to control your SmartThermostat, see ecobee’s Siri support page for more information on proper setup.
